Box Office Report: Baadshaho enters 50-crore club; Shubh Mangal Saavdhan continues at a steady pace
Baadshaho and Shubh Saavdhan Mangal continue at a steady pace at the box office.
September 1, 2017 - We had Ajay Devgn and Emraan's Hashmi's film Baadshaho and Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar's Shubh Mangal Saavdhan clashing at the box office and both are of different genres. One is a hardcore and raw action film and one falls into the category of light-hearted romcom.
Baadshaho, in total, has earned INR 51.1 crore. Baadshaho, which is set on the backdrop of the Emergency period, also stars Ileana D'Cruz, Esha Gupta, Vidyut Jammwal and Sanjay Mishra as the leads and is directed by Milan Luthria. This action drama is made in a budget of INR 80 crore (COP+PnA).
The producers recovered INR 85 crore already from satellite digital music and overseas (INR 44 crore) and India distribution (INR 41 crore) leading to a 5 crore profit on its opening day. I
Director Milan Luthria, earlier talking about box-office numbers, had stated, "No, I do not feel the pressure of that, but yes like many filmmakers, even I want my film to get good numbers at the box office. I think our Indian audience have equated Rs 100 crore as a century of a cricketer. No matter how many times you have scored 99 runs, if you have not done 100s, you are not a successful player. It’s sad. Honestly, personally, I am dead against it.”
Talking about Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, the film, in total, earned INR 21.96 crore. In India, the film has released at 1400 screens.
Recently, when Ayushmann was asked by a leading daily if essaying such roles makes him challenge the conventional image of an Indian man, the actor replied, "Well, that's the message we are trying to convey through this film. My character Mudit is macho. SMS (Shubh Mangal Saavdhan) celebrates the alpha male of our country, who is suffering from performance anxiety. He, along with his partner, is trying to fight the problem. For the couple, it is them versus the family. The film draws attention to the fact that manhood is not just about 'getting it up', but standing up for various issues."
Which film are you rooting for - Shubh Mangal Saavdhan or Baadshaho?
