Shubh Mangal Saavdhan grabbed a lot of eyeballs because of its subject - erectile dysfunction. The film stars Dum Laga Ke Haisha's onscreen couple - Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar. The film hit the screen yesterday and now, the first day figures are out.

The movie has opened on a dull note and has earned INR 2.71 crore at the ticket windows on Day 1. The film did get good reviews from the critics and now the positive word-of-mouth will help Shubh Mangal Saavdhan to rake in better. In India, the film has released at 1400 screens.

Recently, when Ayushmann was asked by a leading daily if essaying such roles makes him challenge the conventional image of an Indian man, the actor replied, "Well, that's the message we are trying to convey through this film. My character Mudit is macho. SMS (Shubh Mangal Saavdhan) celebrates the alpha male of our country, who is suffering from performance anxiety. He, along with his partner, is trying to fight the problem. For the couple, it is them versus the family. The film draws attention to the fact that manhood is not just about 'getting it up', but standing up for various issues."

Bhumi continued, "Ayushmann is one of the most secure people I know. You have to be very secure in your masculinity to take up a subject without even thinking about it. Ayushmann represents the qualities that we all wish a man had. I have seen him with his wife, kids, friends and me. He is genuinely a great guy."
