Box Office Collection: Black Panther leads the pack, Aiyaary off to an average start
This Friday, two films, Black Panther and Aiyaary, hit the screens. Aiyaary is based on real life incident that revolves around two strong-minded army officers. On the other hand, Black Panther is the first black standalone Marvel superhero movie and it follows the story of T’Challa.
Neeraj Pandey’s latest film Aiyaary surely had a tough ride to its release. The film stars Manoj Bajpayee, Sidharth Malhotra and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles. The film has opened on an average note and has earned Rs 3.25 crore on Day 1.
Manoj is the mentor while Sidharth Malhotra plays his protege in the film. Aiyaary is based on real life incident that revolves around two strong-minded army officers having completely different views, yet right in their own ways.
Talking about Aiyaary, Neeraj Pandey revealed his inspiration behind the film in an interview with a leading daily. He said, "Again reality of what’s going around and awareness of the fact that someone needs to talk about these things – that being the underlying reason. Also it was a fantastic story. Once you see the film, you’ll agree that something like this has never been spoken about in this format. So, that was the temptation to address a story like this."
On the other hand, Black Panther is leading the pack. The film minted Rs 5.60 crore on its opening day.
Black Panther is the first black standalone Marvel superhero movie and it follows the story of T’Challa, who returns to the technologically advanced African nation – Wakanda to take his rightful place as the King of the city, after his father’s death. Black Panther made his presence felt in ensemble of superheroes 'Captain America- Civil War.'
Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, said, "We always knew we wanted to do it someday. We always knew it was the manifest destiny of Marvel Studios to bring to life all facets of the Marvel universe. At the end of Iron Man 2, when Nick Fury is discussing for the first time the Avengers initiative with Tony Stark, he’s brought him to this secret shield warehouse. One of the maps prominently displayed is a map of Africa with a little pinpoint to where Wakanda is. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, we talked about Vibranium for the first time and Bruce Banner mispronounces Wakanda. We’ve been feeding it through the films, knowing if we had the opportunity to keep making films, Panther was high on the list. It was his inclusion in Civil War that sped it up."
