Iron Man, Thor and Captain America have had three stand-alone movies. Every movie beating their previous individual records. Ahead of Avengers: Endgame release, here’s a look at which Avenger aced the other at the box office.
Avengers: Endgame is all set to release on April 26. The movie will see the core Avengers, namely Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, come together for possibly one last time and fight against Thanos. While this reunion is definitely rain mullah at the box office and shatter records, Pinkvilla decided to do some time travelling and revisit three particular core Avengers’ journeys at the box office and analyse which of these Avengers is a box office winner. Which three are we talking about? Well, it is none other than Iron Man, Captain America and Thor.
Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man, Chris Evans’ Captain America and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor are the only Avengers from the core team who have a three-movie franchise through spread across the 10-year journey of Marvel Studios. The trio, whose contracts have come to an end with Avengers: Endgame, have delivered blockbuster after blockbuster with the help of their characters. But there is one Avenger who has earned than the other. Comparing box office numbers, here's who is the highest grossing Avenger, yet.
Iron Man:
It is no secret that the superhero set the ball rolling for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008. We still remember when kids rushed into the theatres to watch Robert don the metal mask and fly into the sky. Ever since, MCU fans cannot get enough of Iron Man. The superhero had three movies - Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3 - made and all have been successful. The Robert Downey Jr movies earned $585.2 million, $623.9 million and $1,214.8 million, respectively as per Box Office Mojo. Overall, the Iron Man franchise has contributed about $2,423.9 billion. It is to note that these numbers are sans the inflation adjustments.
Captain America:
Evans has become the synonym to Captain America for everyone. The actor brought Steve Rogers to life and blew everyone's mind three times over. With Captain America: The First Avenger, he introduced the character and cashed in $370.6 million. With some help from Bucky, Captain America: The Winter Soldier earned $714.3 million. But Captain America gathered almost all the Avengers and picked a fight against Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War to register $1,153.3 billion. The overall collection stands at $2,238.1 billion.
Thor:
Hemsworth brought life to the hunky superhero and broke open the world of Asgard to the Earth. Fans rushed to the theatres and watched the stories from the unique world with three movies namely Thor, Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok. Each movie went on to earn more than the other. Thor earned $449.3 million, The Dark World lit MCU with $644.6 million and Ragnarok bagged $854 million. As a result, the Thor universe earned $1,947.9 billion.
Given the three franchises' box office collections, it is clear that Iron Man is highest grossing Avenger of the lot.
But Iron Man faced tough competition from a recently recruited Avenger, Captain Marvel. The first solo female superhero movie registered a whopping $1,066,7 billion in her first outing. It wouldn't come as surprise if Captain Marvel would surpass Iron Man's collections with its sequel movie. Meanwhile, Black Panther is yet another Avenger (who is currently dead) that shattered all Marvel Studios movies records by earning $1,346.9 billion.
