Salman Khan's latest Eid release Tubelight has hit the theatres on June 23, 2017. The Kabir Khan directorial has Salman playing the character of Laxman, who's a man-child. The film opened to mixed reviews by both the critics and audience. It's not a usual Salman Khan film, it has a lot of emotional sequences to offer and which is a little 'hatke' for Salman to portray onscreen.

Tubelight opened to mixed reviews from both the critics and viewers. Tubelight is not a stereotypical Salman Khan film as the film has too many emotional sequences which were after time dragged to the core where people didn't feel comfortable seeing Salman shedding his tears all throughout the movie. The movie is struggling at the domestic market which is a tad bit shocking.

The film has been struggling to retain its spot at the box office. The movie barely managed to cross the coveted INR 100 crore mark on Day 6 of its release and since then has been on a dropping spree.

On its second Saturday, the film could only earn INR 2.75 crore and in total, Tubelight has minted INR 107.32 crore. During a recent interaction with the media at an event, Salman was asked about the low rating by the critics. He said, "The critics were really good. I was expecting minus 3 and minus 4 but they gave 1, 1.5 apparently, so I am very pleased, As per reports, people are saying they can not see Bhai (Salman) crying. So I asked, are they (audience) laughing and the answer was “no, they are crying”. So I said don’t worry about it."

He further added, "As it is an Eid release, people have preconceived notions and plans to throw coins, sing and dance at the cinema hall. So they have gone to watch a certain film but get to watch another film. This film is not of a kind which you watch with your buddies as you will not get an opportunity to dance or have fun. It is a very emotional film. Even an emotionless, stone hearted person will get tears in his eyes. So this is an emotional film to be seen with parents, grandparents and the entire family.”
