Box Office Report: Half Girlfriend continues taking a lead; Hindi Medium shows growth on Day 2
Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor's Half Girlfriend is ahead of Irrfan and Saba Qamar's Hindi Medium.
Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor's Half Girlfriend has finally hit the theatres on May 19. Directed by Mohit Suri, the film show Arjun portraying the role of a national-level basketball player, Madhav Jha. The movie also stars Shraddha Kapoor in the lead role who is seen playing Arjun's romantic interest.
Half Girlfriend got the fifth best opening of this year after Baahubali (Hindi), Raees, Jolly LLB 2 and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. The film has minted INR 10.63 crore on Day taking the total to INR 20.9 crore in two days of its release.
Talking about the numbers, a trade source said, "Half Girlfriend is doing exceptionally well outside of the metros, especially in all big cities in the Hindi markets and all mass multiplex markets. Such films generally see a drop on Saturday but the film instead grew as the metros picked up in the afternoon and evening shows - taking the total to 10.63cr on the second day. With a solid 20.9cr in two days, Half Girlfriend looks set for a spectacular weekend number between 32-34cr!"
On the other hand, Irrfan and Saba Qamar's film Hindi Medium has been appreciated by the critics but is failing to make a mark at the box office. The film earned INR 4.25 crore on Saturday, thus, making the total to INR 7.06 crore.
Hindi Medium shows Irrfan and Saba as a young couple struggling to get the perfect education for their daughter.
