BLACKPINK Lovesick Girls MV to DELETE Jennie's nurse scenes after controversy, YG Entertainment confirms
After the Health and Medical Workers’ Union of Korea criticised YG Entertainment for Jennie's nurse outfit in the BLACKPINK song Lovesick Girls' MV, the entertainment agency has decided to cut the scene out of the video.
YG Entertainment has decided to make amendments to BLACKPINK's latest MV Lovesick Girls after growing controversy. For the unversed, the agency came under fire after the K-pop music video featured Jennie wearing a nurse's outfit. The Health and Medical Workers’ Union of Korea said the outfit "followed the typical depiction used for sexual appeal." They felt that YG fuelled the stereotype by featuring misrepresenting the nurse via Jennie in the scene. BLINKS defended Jennie and demanded the singer is protected.
As the heat on the controversy caught, YG issued a statement earlier this week to assure that the production team is deliberating on the action that can be taken over the scene. They have now confirmed to axe the scenes featuring Jennie's nurse ensemble all together. As reported by Koreaboo, YG issued a statement to confirm that they are removing all the scenes featuring the nurse avatar.
"We have decided to delete all scenes that show the nurse uniform in the music video and will be replacing the music video with the edited version ASAP," the statement read. The team expressed that they did not expect the scene to spark controversy but they take full responsibility for the mishap. "We spent a long time preparing for this music video and we didn’t expect a controversy such as this to happen as we did not have any specific intentions. We feel a heavy sense of responsibility about this issue and we apologize to all the nurses that felt uncomfortable because of this," the statement added.
