After going down in the last match against England, the Indian cricket team on Tuesday made a strong comeback. The Men in Blue pipped Bangladesh by 28 runs to confirm their entry in the semifinals of Cricket World Cup 2019.
Earlier, batting first, India went off to a brilliant start. Rohit Shama continued his golden touch after scoring ton in the last match while as Kl Rahul also finally displayed some touch. The duo formed a mammoth stand of 180 runs. Rohit fell after scoring the second consecutive hundred. Rahul soon followed, making 77 runs. Later, Rishabh Pant came into the party as he made quick 48 runs. MS Dhoni also chipped in with 33 runs cameo, helping India post 314 runs on board.
In reply, Bangladesh didn’t find the start they would have wished for. The opener, Tamim Iqbal was sent back to the pavilion early by Mohammed Shami. There were some partnerships in between but none turned out to be a big one. Shakib Al Hasan was again excellent with the bat, scoring 66 runs. Lastly, all-rounder brought Bangladesh really close to the game. The swashbuckler fired superb fifty, however, Jasprit Bumrah rattled the tail to hand India 28-run win.
Bumrah finished with four wickets while as Hardik Pandya also scalped three. With this win, India confirmed its spot in the semifinals as they now stand at the second position in the points table with 13 points from 8 games.
