Bangladesh become first team to visit Sri Lanka after Easter bombings; Tamim Iqbal satisfied with security
Lasith Malinga has announced his retirement from international cricket after the first game between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh on July 26
Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal was satisfied with the security arranegmenets as they became the first team to visit Sri Lanka since the Easter bombings. The batsman revealed that security was not a concern for his side after the hosts had arranged tight protection for them after the April 21 attacks that killed 258 people.
"The security has been fantastic. The facilities they have given us are top notch," he said.
"We are feeling very comfortable. There is nothing except cricket (that) we are thinking of. The boys are enjoying the hotel and if they want to go out, it is completely safe for us."
The Bangla Tigers have been given the kind of security that state level dignitaries usually get, with their team hotel deployed with armed guards.
"We have special security arrangements at match venues too," a police official told AFP.
The government had extended the state of emergency that had been declared after the attacks till August 22 on Monday, to give authorities more time and power to detain and arrest suspects.
Tamim stated that his team was traveling to Sri Lanka despite the violence, to display solidarity with the hosts.
Bangladesh will play three ODIs on July 26, 28 and 31 at Colombo. Lasith Malinga will retire from cricket after the first game.
