Australia vs Sri Lanka, World Cup 2019: We are yet to reach our maximum potential feels skipper Aaron Finch
Though Australia have won three of their four World Cup games, Skipper Aaron Finch feels his team has played nowhere near to its potential.
Five time champions Australia who were not considered to be favorites coming into this tournament, have won three of their four matches and are comfortably placed at third position in the points table. But skipper Aaron Finch feels that his team is yet to play their best cricket in this tournament.
Addressing the media before their game against Sri Lanka at The Oval, Skipper Finch said," I don’t think we have gone anything near our best which is still a good thing. We have six points on the board but are not playing anywhere near our best cricket which is a real positive. But as long as we are improving and continue to go up and not backwards, I think that is the key."
Their run scoring has been majorly dominated by Skipper Aaron Finch, David Warner and Steve Smith. Their bowling too has been heavily reliant on star pacers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins. Also, an injury to Marcus Stoinis means that there would be added pressure on Glenn Maxwell to deliver the goods with the ball.
Australia have lost their only game of the World Cup against Team India last Sunday.
"You are coming up against different oppositions all the time. You don’t get into a rhythm, there are different challenges every time. India were spin heavy through the middle, West Indies were all about pace through the middle"
Finch also rolled his arm over in the game against Pakistan and picked up the wicket of Mohammad Hafeez with a full toss.
When asked about his bowling he said," Have I been working on my bowling? Not much! I am just trying to land them to be honest, it is pretty ordinary but I got a bit lucky."
"When you play four specialist bowlers and rely on your fifth, what I would call a good part-timer is Maxwell, he has shown in the last World Cup he was our spinner, he has shown he can do it. But it is tough without guys, especially all-rounders who balance out your side really well."
Australia would like to make light work of Sri Lanka when they clash against each other on Saturday.
