Australia are the favourites for the game as they are the in-form team and also because they have more depth in the side.
Australia and South Africa will play the last league game of the World Cup 2019 when they face off at Manchester. While the defending champions have qualified for the semis, the Proteas have had a dismal run so far, with just two wins, and have already crashed out.
However, there will be no lack of interest in the game, as the Aussies will be aiming to win and end as the top-ranked team. If India manage to beat Sri Lanka, and Australia lose their game on Saturday, they will slip to second on the points table, and will face England in the semis. If Australia win, they will hold on to their numero uno position and face New Zealand, which will be an easier battle for them.
The Australians are the favourites for this game, with form and momentum both on their side. They have lost only one game in the edition to India, but have bounced back brilliantly with Mitchell Starc starring with the ball, and the openers amassing more than 1000 runs between them in the event thus far. If the three fail, they still have enough bench strength to put up a strong showing, which will not be the case with South Africa, who have relied on the performance of a few stars in the edition.
Other than Quinton de Kock, Chris Morris and Faf du Plessis, the other cricketers from South Africa have disappointed. Kagiso Rabada has not been lethal, while Imran Tahir has blown hot and cold. He will be playing his last game on Saturday, and will be eager to bow out on a high.
However, considering the might and the depth of the Aussies, it seems tough that an under-performing side can get the better of them.
