Amid Golden Globes snub; Minari scores 10 nominations including Best Picture for Critics Choice Awards 2021
Minari has been nominated for a whopping 10 categories, with the most coveted one being Best Picture, for the 26th Critics Choice Awards.
2020's Best Picture Academy award-winning film, Parasite, had definitely put Korean cinema on the world map. The dark and deliciously gripping, socio-political thriller on class-conflict and the unequal wealth distribution, between the haves and have nots, resonated with the audience worldwide. Parasite won most of the major awards at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best International feature film and Best Original Screenplay. Seems like another Korean masterpiece, is here to shake the American film market.
According to reports carried out by Critics Choice Association and Chosun Biz, via Soompi, Minari has been nominated in 10 categories by the American Canadian Critics Choice Association (CCA) for the 26th Critics Choice Awards. According to The Critics Choice Association actors Steven Yeun and Youn Yuh, have received nominations for Best Actor and Best Actress respectively. Director Lee Issac Chung, received two notable nominations including, the Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. The film also received nominations for Best Ensemble Cast and Best Foreign Language Film.
Meanwhile, Minari has been scoring big with American awards. Earlier this month, Minari was nominated for one Golden Globe in the category for Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language. However, it was also snubbed from the main Best Motion Picture category. The film also bagged three nominations at the 27th Screen Actor Guild (SAG) Awards. If the awards-trail continues in a positive direction, Minari could land a positive nomination at the 93rd Academy Awards too.
