After loss to Australia, England find themselves in a tough position in the World Cup 2019
England now need to win two games in two if they wish to qualify for the semis. They face India next on June 30.
The hot favourites for the title, England are struggling to qualify for the semis in the Cricket World Cup 2019. They took on Australia at the iconic Lord's on Tuesday desperately needing a win after two losses in the tournament had derailed their campaign. The English side started the edition on a high with a good win over South Africa, but losses against Pakistan and Sri Lanka - both not so fancied teams - left them needing two wins in their remaining three games.
But what compounded matters for them was that their remaining matches were against tough sides - Australia, India and New Zealand. The English team had not won a World Cup game against these three teams in the last 27 years, but the might of their batting made one believe that they had it in them to qualify for the top four. However, a 64-run loss to Australia - a game in which they could not even chase 285 - has meant that they are now on the cusp of losing out.
They need to win both their games to stand a chance of finishing in the top four. If they manage to win only one, they will need to hope that Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka lose at least one of their remaining three games.
However, the best chance will be if they keep their destiny in their own hands and seal victories in their remaing games.
England take on India next on June 30.
