South African cricketer AB de Villiers left the world of cricket shell-shocked when he announced his international retirement last year. The player stated that long tours along with frequent injuries had led to his retirement. Just a year before the World Cup, his farewell came as a rude shock to the fans who were eager to watch him play and help South Africa win the Cup.
The Proteas have had a poor run in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2019. They have crashed out of the event with yet another disappointing loss against Pakistan on Sunday. Their only win in the edition came against Afghanistan, and it is no surprise that de Villiers' absence is being sorely felt. He continues to play the IPL, which further enraged fans.
De Villiers' wife recently posted an Instagram photo with her husband, with the caption reading, “I hope you don’t mind that I put down in words… how wonderful life is now that you’re in the world. Much needed the afternoon off with my one and only, confidante and bestie”.
While many liked the love the duo shared, one fan blamed Danielle de Villiers for his retirement and stated that she had ruined his life.
Not one to remain silent, she gave it back to him.
While the anger of the fans is justified, dragging family members into a player's cricketing career can in no way be justified.
