BLACKPINK: Light Up The Sky: BTS gets a deserving nod in the Netflix documentary during K pop discussion

The day has finally come, which BLINKS have impatiently been waiting for as BLACKPINK: Light Up The Sky, Netflix's first K-pop documentary, has finally dropped. In the Carolina Suh directorial, we get to see Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo & Rosé's intimate, vulnerable sides take the spotlight as opposed to their 'global phenomenon' personas. Moreover, there's considerable light shed on K-pop as an industry along with the Westernised perception of it.

While talking about why BLACKPINK works so well as a team, producer and 1TYM member Teddy Park posed the question, "We're just Korean people trying to do music, so if Korean people make music, it's K-pop? I don't even get it. It's Korean pop. The only thing is language. Why don't they do that for every country? What is K-pop?" What proceeds is a montage of popular artists from over the years who have had a very significant impact on K-pop including BTS as footages from their Blood, Sweat & Tears MV as well as their several achievements were highlighted through posters. Moreover, there was also a BTS ARMY member holding a huge Jimin banner outside one of their concerts that was shown.

It's not just BTS though who gets a nod but even the legendary Seo Taiji and Boys, Girls' Generation, Big Bang, 2NE1, NCT, Super Junior and PSY's viral song Gangnam Style (by YG Entertainment), who were acknowledged as K-pop trendsetters by the members.
