Waxing 101: Common problems you can avoid and how to get a pain free waxing session

Hair removal is something almost every girl goes through as she grows up. Some take to means like shaving to get rid of all the fuzz temporarily while others opt for other ways like lazer, threading or waxing for hair removal. Waxing is the most common way to get rid of unwanted hair on the body and even face! It is one means where the hair growth in the area consistently reduces as the process weakens the hair follicles since it plucks the hair out from the root.

Unfortunate though, it can be quite a painful experience. The aftermath of ingrown hair too, is painful and annoying. Here is everything you need to do to make the process as painless and less bumpy as possible.

Prepare your skin

Before waxing, using a scrub, physically scrub your skin to get rid of all the dead skin cells and ensure the surface is a clear canvas. It also helps get rid of all the oils and sweat that was on your body since the wax won't affect your skin if it is oily or uneven.

Let your hair grow

To get the right amount of grip to pull out the hair completely without breaking it off, the hair needs to be long enough. Ensure your hair is at least one cm long before getting it waxed. The ideal time between two waxing sessions should be between 3-4 weeks as this is usually how long it takes for the entire hair to grow.

Test the wax on your skin

There are many variants of wax available including sugars, soft wax, hard wax etc. It is best to test each strip on your arm before going for a full body or face session. Check for reactions, skin burns, rashes, etc. if you have sensitive skin.

Wax in the correct direction

One of the most important ways to wax the hair off from your body in the right way, is to wax your hair in the right direction. A common mistake is to wax the hair off in the perpendicular way irrespective of in which way your hair is growing. This could lead to the breakage of the hair while it is still stuck to the root below the skin. This will cause the skin to remain bumpy and could even lead to ingrowths.

Post-wax skincare

It is not advisable to do activities which tend to harm your skin, just after waxing. Sports activities including workouts, swimming, cycling, etc. could lead to infections considering your pores are still open after the waxing session. The best way to ensure your skin remains clean, is by rinsing it with plain water jsut after waxing.

Moisturise your skin after this with a lotion which does not have an extremely strong fragrance or use an astringent to close the pores and block the entry of bacteria into the skin.
