The colours used during the festival have high chemical content and can be extremely harsh on your hair. Because it is next to impossible to escape the colour play and have fun, the best one can do is follow some easy tips to stay protected before and after the celebrations.

Here are a few tips to protect those tresses from even before stepping out for the play.

1) Oiling is the most essential and classic hair care hack. It prevents colours from penetrating into the hair shaft and from hair breakage when you’re washing the colours. It also creates a protective layer for your hair which is much needful while you enjoy the colours. One may choose regular coconut oil, Argan Oil or Almond Oil to coat every hair strand so it's protected. It is best to use a lightweight, non-sticky oil so that cleaning is easier.

2) Avoid a hair wash the day before Holi, as clean hair can attract more harmful coloured Dust particles.

3) Style your hair into a cool braid or a trendy top knot to keep it less exposed. This will not only ensure that your hair is less with colours but will also help you wash your hair post celebrations with lesser effort.

4) Use a Cool Colourful Bandana to tie up the tresses and with that, you can go ahead and enjoy and keep your beautiful hair protected.

5) Post Holi before you wash your hair, brush off the dry colours that must have been accumulated in your hair.

6) The wash of Holi colour from the hair is important. Do not go too harsh on the hair rinse. Stand under running cold water for 10 minutes so that most of the colour comes off and let most of the colours wash off from your hair. Once all the colour particles are off use a mild shampoo for cleansing opt for products that are more nourishing and soothing to the scalp and hair both, repeat the shampoo application as it would be required for better cleansing. Do not fret if the colour does not leave in one go as it takes a few days for the hair to retain its natural shine.

7) Next step is to Condition the hair.

Your hair at this point needs extra nourishment and strengthening. A homemade mask could help for the moment:

1 tsp honey + 1 tsp yoghurt + half a lemon juice can really help cleanse further and nourish the hair.

Blend it into a fine paste and massage it on the scalp and hair. leave it on for 10-15 mins.

Then, rinse it off. This can be a good conditioner to the hair.

You may follow this with your regular hair mask too in case you feel the hair is too tangled.

After the rinse, do not miss the leave-in cream and hair serum to be applied over the length of the hair. Moisture retention is very essential at this point.

Hair detox cleansing treatment or a simple hair spa is surely recommended post Holi.
