Does castor oil really give you long lashes? Here’s the truth
Castor oil is believed to stimulate hair growth
For ages together now our mothers and grandmothers have sworn to desi nuskhas and we all know the benefits of them too. Apart from the gazillion oils that’s known to mankind, some of them really do have a massive impact (read: beauty impact). While all of us do know the many benefits of coconut and argan oil, castor oil is also vastly famous. You must have at least once in your life being advised by your concerned aunties to use castor oil. The oil is filled with a lot of beneficial properties like it’s a great moisturiser, great for healing wounds. However, one thing that castor oil is most associated with is that it helps in lash and brow growth. But are all these claims really true? Let’s find out.
Just like the rest of the oils, namely, coconut and argan, castor oil too is great for scabrous skin and makes it softer. The best part about it is that it does not cause any allergy whatsoever, hence it’s a great home remedy. In an interview with Vogue India, Dr. Shubha Dharmana said, “When you use it as a moisturiser on your lashes and brows, it prevents breakage and splitting; hence, while it might not stimulate growth, it’s excellent to maintain what you have.”

The most important question however is, does castor oil actually help in hair growth? Well, then here’s us breaking the myth to you guys. Castor oil does not have any properties that stimulates hair growth, it is just a great natural moisturiser. “When it coats your hair, it looks thicker and that often leads to this misconception. There are treatments designed to promote lash and brow growth, but castor oil does not have growth stimulation properties,” the doctor added.

Although castor oil does not have any allergic properties, one however, should be a little cautious when using it. The oil is extremely heavy in nature and tends to clog pores, so people with oily skin should be careful. The correct way to use castor oil is to pour some on a cotton pad and brush it on the brows and lashes. Do not let it be cloggy as it can be harmful and in the worst case can also cause pimples. Apply it in the night so that it stays on for a pretty long time. Also, an additional tip would be to apply castor oil with a ear bud on the lashes just before applying mascara. This will make the eyelashes look longer and thicker.

This one sure has made our head swirl, however, one cannot take away from the many benefits of this super oil. Pamper yourself and give your body and skin the much needed treatment it deserves.
