World Cup 2019: Holder praises his bowlers for dismissing Pakistan early
West Indies were led by Oshane Thomas who picked up 4 wickets as they dismissed Pakistan for 105 runs.
After registering a seven-wicket win over Pakistan in the World Cup opener, West Indies captain Jason Holder praised his bowlers for dismissing the Pakistanis for only 105 runs.
West Indies then went on to overhaul the target in only 13.4 overs, courtesy a quickfire 50 from Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran's unbeaten 34.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Holder said, "we got off to a really good start. Got wickets with the new ball which is what we ask of the guys. Russell is an impact player. Really good to see the impact he had today, followed by Oshane Thomas. Sheldon (Cottrell) started really well for us. Credit to the boys who stuck to the task. Russell can get the ball through, bowled some sharp balls today. He's one who gives 100% every time even though he might not be 100 per cent. Good to have a young quick in Thomas as well."
He also acknowledged that Oshane Thomas, who picked up 4 wickets could be expensive, but West Indies realize what a talent he is. "We know Oshane (Thomas) can be expensive, but he's a genuine wicket-taker and that's a gamble we're willing to take. With such high totals these days, you need to get wickets. He is definitely an impact player."
He also added that West Indies are looking to play fearless cricket, and that if they play to full potential, could be a real threat in the event.
