Suresh Raina spills the beans on MS Dhoni being India’s captain on ground for current skipper Virat Kohli
MS Dhoni has been often seen taking control of field during crucial moments of the game. Taking note, Suresh Raina said that Dhoni is still India's captain on ground.
Indian cricketer, Suresh Raina on Sunday made a shocking revelation as the left-handed batsman said that MS Dhoni is still India’s captain on ground, doesn’t matter if Kohli holds the place on paper.
The Uttar Pradesh-born in an interview with PTI said, “On paper he's not the captain. On the ground, he's the captain for Virat I think".
Raina, who has been out of the national team scenes for a long time now, has played most of his international cricket under MS Dhoni. As the southpaw plays for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, he knows the former Indian skipper quite closely.
It has been often on display that MS Dhoni makes the moves on the ground, while Virat takes backseat, especially during crucial moments. Taking notice, Raina insisted that his role is still the same for team India.
“His role is still the same. He communicates with the bowlers from behind the stumps, coordinates the field placements. He's the captain of the captains. Virat feels confident when Dhoni is behind the stumps. He has always acknowledged that", the 32-year-old was quoted as saying by PTI.
Meanwhile, the upcoming World Cup will be a tough test for Virat Kohli. How he makes decisions in and out of the ground is highly going to play a part in India’s journey in the mega event. The Indian team will start its World Cup campaign against South Africa on June 5.
