New Zealand posted a big win over Sri Lanka

In another one-sided encounter, New Zealand on Saturday thrashed Sri Lanka by 10 wickets at Cardiff to start the World Cup campaign on a dominating note. The Kiwi bowlers displayed extraordinary effort, bundling out the struggling Lankan batting line-up on paltry 136 runs. Later, their openers, without wasting any time, completed the match in just 16.1 overs. Here are the top performances of the match.

Henry and Ferguson's speedy spell

New Zealand went off to a dazzling start as Matt Henry picked Lankan opener, Lahiru Thirimanne’s wicket in the very first over. The pacer struck again in the 9th over, Perera and Mendis on consecutive deliveries. Later, Lockie Ferguson ripped through the lower-order and scalped 3 wickets to bundle out Sri Lanka early.

Dimuth Kuranaratne's fighting fifty

Amid Lankan collapse, skipper, Dimuth Kuranaratne fought courageously as the left-handed batsman carried his bat throughout the innings. The opener despite constantly losing partners from the other end, kept his head calm and ended up scoring 84-ball unbeaten 52 runs to take Lanka to 136 runs.

Guptill and Munro’s quickfire fifties

The Kiwi openers started strongly while chasing the meager total. Both Martin Guptill and Colin Munro went after the Sri Lanka bowling attack and made sure to finish the match in not more than 16.1 overs. Guptil made 71 runs while Munro scored 58 to steer New Zealand to 10 wickets win.
