NZ vs SL, World Cup 2019: Talking points from the game
Yet another low-scoring encounter was witnessed in the World Cup.
Karunaratne plays on but survives
We witnessed yet another instance of the bails staying put even after a batter played on to his stumps in this edition of the World Cup. Trent Boult's fourth ball of the sixth over saw Dimuth Karunaratne play on to the off-stump, and though they moved temporarily, the bails remained intact.
In the World Cup opener between England and South Africa, Adil Rashid was denied a Quinton de Kock wicket when the batter's sweep shot clipped off-stump and even lit up, but the bails were unmoved.
Munro latches on to his chance
An injury to Henry Nicholls meant that Munro opened the innings, and little did he disappoint. While his partner Martin Guptill threw the bat around at times, Munro was more assured and got to a fifty. The player was in dismal form before the game without a 50 to his name in the last 17 innings, but he latched on to his chances with both hands.
Bowlers come to the party again
The World Cup was said to be a gift for the batters, but the games thus far have not gone to script. Yes, weaker teams have been batting first so far, but bowler's have had a field day in this edition as well. The same was witnessed in the game too, with Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson and Trent Boult hitting the perfect length and garnering movement to cause all sorts of problems.
