ICC World Cup 2019: Team Preview: Can South Africa finally win the trophy?
South Africa starts the World Cup campaign against hosts England at Oval. The side did quite well in the warm-up matches and will enter the tournament as favourites
South Africa is one of the most unlucky cricket teams in the world. The side, despite having had the best of the players in the squad, hasn't even triumphed a single tournament thus far. They are known for succumbing when it comes to knockouts of a mega event. The Proteas fans though haven't given up hope. They never hesitate in coming out to back their team and players even during the worst of the days.
Meanwhile, in the upcoming World Cup, South Africa is going with a strong bench of players. From excellent batsmen to elite bowlers, the team is full of experience and young energy. Moreover, the likes of some extraordinary fielders make this team a three-dimensional one.
However, the question is can they finally break the jinx of succumbing at a world event? Well, to know the answer in real, we have to wait and watch how they work out things once the tournament begins. Though considering the squad strength and recent form, Proteas without any doubt seem a team that can easily finish in the top four.
The presence of Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla at the top and Faf du Plessis in the middle is an indication of how strong a side South Africa is. Pertinently, in the bowling department, they have veteran Dale Steyn making a comeback, fast bowler Kagiso Rabada and spin sensation Imran Tahir.
Nonetheless, at the end of the day, the Men in Pink need to play to their potential, back their strengths and fight out limitations to emerge on top. If they manage to tick all the boxes, who knows, the chokers can finally bring home the World Cup.
