South Africa will play its first official World Cup warm up match against Sri Lanka today at Cardiff. Let’s have a look at these two teams who would be keen on making the most out of the warm up games before the ICC World Cup 2019 commences.

South Africa

Despite the excess of young talent in the team, South Africa will still struggle to find a replacement of the talent that AB De Villiers possesses. Kagiso Rabada is the player who has all the eyes fixed on him ahead of the big tournament. In his 64 One Day International, Rabada managed to take 102 wickets with a bowling average of just 26.80. South Africa currently ranks 3rd in ODI rankings and has been consistent over the years with their form in limited overs cricket. With the likes of Faf Du Plessis, Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock, South Africa looks extremely robust in their batting department. This warm up game would be a great opportunity for the Proteas to test the fitness of their key players.

Sri Lanka

On the other hand, Sri Lanka lacks the skill and experience in their team and is the currently the most inexperienced squad in the World Cup. Led by Dimuth Karunaratne, the Sri Lankan team will rely on Lasith Malinga who bowled a splendid last over in IPL finals against Chennai Super Kings that contributed to Mumbai Indian’s win. Over the past few years, Sri Lanka has been struggling to make an impact in International Cricket. Sri Lanka’s only ODI win in 2019 was against Scotland on May 21. It would be interesting to see that whether they can turn the tables in their favour this World Cup.
