Sheldon Cottrell, who has made the military salute his own after picking up a wicket, was at it again after dismissing Imam-ul-Haq in the ICC World Cup 2019 game against West Indies.

The West Indian has used this send-off many times in the past, with his celebration in the Caribbean Premier League being more elaborate. He walks back towards the bowling crease, before proceeding to give a salue.

Cottrell has attributed this send-off to his training in the military. "My celebration is a military-style salute. I'm a soldier back in Jamaica by profession, 11 years strong. Me saluting is just to show my respect to the Jamaica Defence Force. I just enjoy the saluting, enjoy playing cricket. I practised the celebration for six months when I was training in the army."

However, the salute was earlier made famous by Marlon Samuels in 2016, when he used it to send-off Ben Stokes in a game against England. Earlier, Misbah-ul-Haq from Pakistan used the salute as well in a Test match against England after he scored a hundred. However, it was an act to pay respect to the Pakistani army, with whom he had trained before the tour.
