ICC World Cup 2019: Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed proudly wears traditional outfit to meet the Queen

Sarfaraz Ahmed was proud to wear Pakistan’s traditional outfit while visiting the Queen ahead of the World Cup 2019 on Wednesday. The captain was trolled by a few sections on Twitter for wearing the traditional attire of salwar kameez instead of suits like the other skippers. Ahmed wore a white kurta-salwar set with the official Pakistani blazer. While his call was applauded by Pakistanis, there were many who took to Twitter to troll him.

However, in a heart-warming moment, Indians took to the critics and lauded Ahmed for not being afraid to spread his culture during such a high-profile visit. During the press conference before Pakistan’s opener against West Indies on Friday, Ahmed was asked about his choice of outfit, to which he replied that he was instructed by the Board to represent his country’s culture.

“The salwar kameez is our national dress and I got instructions from the Board to do all these things, so I tried to promote our national dress. I felt very proud that the other captains were wearing suits, but I was wearing national dress,” he was quoted as saying.

Pakistan will take on West Indies at Trent Bridge today from 3 PM IST.
