Virat Kohli is one of the finest batsmen in the world and is currently occupying the number one spot in One Day Internationals according to the ICC rankings. Over the years he proved his captaincy abilities along with his spectacular batting and is now leading the team in 2019 World Cup. However, his journey from a raw player to becoming the indispensable player from the Indian cricket team includes years of hard work and passion.
2011 World Cup
Virat Kohli started his World Cup journey in 2011 under the guidance of MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, Virendra Sehwag and other star names in the team. Even though the team comprised of these stalwarts and legendary names, this young lad managed to make his presence felt in the squad. This 22-year-old batsman made an impact in his first World Cup game itself where he managed to score a century against Bangladesh. Virat Kohli scored 282 runs in 9 matches with a fantastic strike rate of 82.21. However, the high point of his World Cup journey was the finals against Sri Lanka. Though he scored 35 runs in finals, but his ability to absorb pressure situations and sustain a partnership with Gautam Gambhir proved his maturity as a team player. It wouldn't be wrong to conclude that this small innings of 35 runs actually played a major role in India's win.

2015 World Cup
In 2015, Virat Kohli evolved himself as a player and played a major role in team's batting. From 2011, Virat Kohli marked several records in his name that included the most ODI runs by an Indian Cricketer for 4 consecutive years (2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014). Here, the batting pressure was handled by him along with openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. Led by MS Dhoni, this Indian Team despite their inability to retain the title and the cup had some positives to take especially with its opening pair. Virat Kohli scored 301 runs in the tournament with an exceptional batting average of 75.25.
Virat Kohli from there on became the captain of the Indian Cricket Team and is now leading the men in blue in 2019 World cup that is to be held at England and Wales.
