ICC World Cup 2019: England off to a poor start as they lose first wicket in the initial over
South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl first. England off to a poor start.
In the first World Cup game, South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl first. England that were considered to be the tournaments favourites and were expected to put on a big total in the match would be disappointed with their poor start. England lost a wicket in the first over of the match itself. Despite the likes of Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler and other batting stalwarts in the team, will this poor start cost the team the match?
Jonny Bairstow who was considered to be the key factor for the team got out on the bowling of Imran Tahir. He was caught by Quinton de Kock on a duck. However, with Jason Roy and Joe Root still on the crease, the South African bowlers won’t get time to celebrate this wicket. It will be an interesting contest between the tournament favourites and the in-form players of South Africa.
Despite being named as favourites, this unpredictable tournament has already kick-started with surprises and last minute thrills. The ten teams playing the sport will all have their eyes on the trophy.
South Africa will take on Bangladesh on Sunday, June 2.
England will play its next World Cup match against Pakistan on Monday, June 3.
