Brendon McCullum posted this picture on his Instagram account and captioned it as, “World Cup game by game predictions.
4 teams will fight out the 4th qualifying spot and net run rate will decide who progresses. Rain and luck will likely play a part as well. I hope Nz gets that little bit of luck and can qualify. Enjoy the 6 week celebration of the best players on the planet. #CWC2019”.
Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan were at the lowest rankings in his prediction. In the 9 matches, he predicted Afghanistan to win just the 2 of them, one against Sri Lanka and the other against Bangladesh. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh both are predicted to win just one match against West Indies and Sri Lanka, respectively. This created a lot of tension in the comment section with the fans of these 3 teams defending their teams by calling it unfair.
Brendon later justified in the comment section by saying, “This WC analysis is IMO how the tournament will unfold. I would like nothing more for the growth of the game than for Afgh, Bang and SL to be serious contenders in this WC. If the tournament was in Asia, they may well have been. But it’s early summer in the UK. Hence my predictions.”
