In the first 2019 World Cup encounter between England and South Africa, the hosts emerged as victorious.
There were plenty of match winning moments in the first game that one cannot overlook at. However, the top-most being Ben Strokes' super human, one-handed catch that contributed to England's 104 runs victory against the Proteas.
Even though it was only the first day of the big tournament, the fans have already anticipated this catch as the catch of the tournament. It was South Africa's Andile Phehlukwayo who got out on 24 runs on Adil Rashid's delivery.
The fans have already started comparing Stokes with the legendary Jonty Rhodes. It will be interesting to see how England continues to live up to the expectations of the fans and how the Proteas mark its presence in the tournament with a bang.
It was Ben Stokes who emerged as a star with his batting, bowling and his extraordinary fielding. Scoring 89 runs of 79 balls, he was the highest run scorer in the match. His catch left the fans in shock and was also compared to the stalwarts of the game.
Batting first, England put a huge total of 311/8 on board after the end of 50 overs. However, the Proteas couldn't handle the extraordinary English bowling and were all out after 39.5 overs.
South Africa will play its next WC 2019 match against Bangladesh on June 2, whereas England will encounter Pakistan on June 3.
