More than the win in their first warm up match against Sri Lanka, Proteas’ Andile Phehlukwayp will be the biggest positive for the team.
More than the win in their first warm up match against Sri Lanka, Proteas’ Andile Phehlukwayp will be the biggest positive for the team. Whilst the top order contributed heavily to the team’s batting line up with Faf Du Plessis’ (88) and Hashim Amla’s (65), it was Andile who stood out with his exceptional bowling figures and decent batting scores (35 off 34 balls). It will be crucial for the Proteas to back up this emerging star in order to sustain till the very end of the tournament.
The Sri Lankan team were all set to chase the total and were good with the bat initially. Sri Lankan’s Captain Dimuth Karunaratne (87) and Angelo Mathews (64) carried the pressure of batting on their shoulders. However, with the best bowling figure for the Proteas, Andile Phehlukwayo ceased the Lankans to reach the 300 runs mark. With 4 wickets in 7 overs with just 36 runs, he has surely marked his presence in the team. He is definitely the most crucial all rounder for the team.
Andile Phehlukwayo made his ODI debut in 2016 and in his 36 ODI games he managed to score 365 runs with a batting average of 33.18. As far as his bowling is concerned, this young cricketer picked up 48 wickets in his ODI career. It will be interesting to see the growth in his cricketing career as an all rounder after this match.
