Vijay Shankar, after making a surprising entry into the India's World Cup squad, injured himself just ahead of the warm-up game against Bangladesh. On Saturday, before the start of match between India and New Zealand, the news of Shankar having suffered a hit on his forearm was unveiled. This made the all-rounder sit out for the match, hence missing an opportunity to showcase his form ahead of the main event. Although reports are saying that there is no fracture, in case it was a serious one, India might face more trouble.
The Men in Blue didn't enjoy their outing in the first warm-up fixture at Oval as Kiwis dominated in all the three departments. Right from the beginning, Indian players found themselves in the shambles with none of its players going well in the middle. The batting order which collapsed was followed by an ordinary bowling display, adding woes for Virat Kohli and team ahead of the all-important World Cup.
Meanwhile, with KL Rahul struggling with his form, Shankar, who has been proposed as India's number 4 for World Cup will surely have to play a big part. His presence not only strengthens Indian batting line-up but gives Kohli an extra bowling option as well.
Also Kedar Jadhav, who recently returned from an injury, wasn't spotted on the field during this match. So, this injury scare for Vijay Shankar can pose a threat for India, since Hardik Pandya will have to bowl more if Vijay misses out from the playing XI. It will automatically add the workload for Pandya, whose performance for India is crucial, to say the least. The Indian fans would be hoping that Shankar recovers soon as India enters World Cup as a fresh side.
