Ban vs SA, World Cup 2019: Bangladesh post record total
Bangladesh set South Africa a target of 331 for victory.
Bangladesh posted a record 330 for 6 in the World Cup 2019 after being asked to bat first against South Africa at the Oval in London. The total is Bangaldesh's highest in its 33-year old ODI history, beating the 329 for 6 they made against Pakistan at Dhaka. Their highest World Cup total before the record was 322 for 4 when they made against Scotland in 2015.
On a sunny day at the Oval, a record partnership of 142 between Mushfiqur Rahim who made 78 and Shakib Al Hasan, who made 75, ensured that the Tigers were always ahead in the game.
Imran Tahir dismissed Shakib to break Bangladesh's best partnership in a World Cup, but the setback was not felt for long as Mahmudullah (46 not out) and Mosaddek Hossain, who made 26, thrashed the Proteas attack to go past 300.
Mushfiqur and Shakib casually took apart the South Africans with their fearless yet careful approach. They gave the bowlers nothing, batted serenely and played shots all over the park. The previous best stand for the team in the World Cup was a stand of 141 that Rahim and Mahmudullah had shared in 2015, in the game where they defeated England.
