Barkha Sengupta: I think I am ‘cute hot’ like Katrina Kaif
In an interview, Barkha Sengupta got candid about the monotonous tone in TV shows nowadays. She also addressed the 'Hot' tag attached to her and how you get stereotyped if you have an image.
Nowadays, many Television celebrities are coming out in the open and talking about the monotonous nature of TV shows. One of the stars who is talking about the same Barkha Sengupta who gives an example of her previous show Naamkarann.
Barkha said to Hindustan Times, "On television, how is one show different from the other? Whether it is daily dramas or comedies, they all look the same. I don’t think there is much to be done in terms of change or improvement on TV. When anyone does try to be different, the audience doesn't accept it. That’s why everyone is sticking to formulae. It makes an actor disappointed and dejected as the effort goes waste."
"My last drama, produced by Mahesh Bhatt, was about an unmarried woman bringing up her daughter. But that track didn’t work and soon it fell back to the usual formulae. That’s when the show started getting good ratings. It is disheartening to see that, and this norm discourages you from choosing something different, no matter how much you want to," Barkha stated.
Recently, Barkha has been given the 'Hot' tag but the actor does not want it to define her in any way. "You get stereotyped if you have an image. I want to do a variety of roles and such an image might not be beneficial in the long run. I am not super-hot like Malaika Arora is but I think I am ‘cute hot’ like Katrina Kaif (laughs)," Barkha quipped.
Barkha stars in the remake of the iconic 90's sitcom, Shrimaan Shrimati. Talking about the show, Barkha said, "Working in a remake is fun but it adds pressure as well. Everyone in Shrimaan Shrimati was so brilliant that the thought of being compared to them is scary. I used to love the show so I look at this as a great opportunity to handle the challenge of a remake."
