India celebrates Teachers' Day on September 5. It marks the birth anniversary of the second Prime Minister of India, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was also a philosopher and a statesman. During his tenure as the President of India (1962-67), his students and friends wanted him to celebrate his birthday. Known for his humble nature, he requested, “Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if September 5 is observed as Teachers’ Day.” Since then, his birthday has been observed as Teachers’ Day.

While India celebrates Teachers day ever since, Bollywood too is not left behind. Bollywood stars have played the role of a teacher quite many times. In fact, their superb performances as a teacher have also made us give them a huge round of applause. From Boman Irani's role as the Dean of an Engineering Institute in 3 Idiots to Sridevi playing the role of a class teacher in Mom, or be it the ever-resilient Amitabh Bachchan in BLACK. The performances from the Bollywood stars have not only won many awards but HEARTS too.

1: Sridevi in Mom

Mom is a 2017 Indian crime thriller film directed by Ravi Udyawar in a screenplay written by Girish Kohli. Produced by Boney Kapoor, Sunil Manchanda, Mukesh Talreja, Naresh Agarwal and Gautam Jain, the film stars Sridevi, as a vigilante, who sets out to avenge her step-daughter, played by Sajal Ali.

2: Aamir Khan in Taare Zameen Par

Taare Zameen Par (titled Like Stars on Earth internationally) is a 2007 Indian drama film produced and directed by Aamir Khan. The film explores the life and imagination of Ishaan, an 8-year-old dyslexic child. Darsheel Safary stars as 8-year-old Ishaan, and Khan plays his art teacher.

3: Sushmita Sen in Main Hoon Na

The actress’s sexy, sari-clad avatar for the portrayal of Chandani Chopra, a chemistry teacher, in Main Hoon Na won many hearts.

4: Rani Mukerji in Hichki

Hichki is a 2018 Indian Hindi comedy-drama film, directed by Sidharth P Malhotra and produced by Maneesh Sharma under the banner Yash Raj Films. Hichki stars Rani Mukerji in the lead role of an aspiring teacher having Tourette syndrome, who must prove herself by educating a group of underprivileged students.

5: Boman Irani in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S and 3 Idiots

Boman Irani played the role of Dr JC Asthana, the strict Medical College Dean in Munnabhai MBBS which was also his first notable role in a Bollywood movie. He also played the role of an ambitious but shrewd college dean in 3 Idiots won him critical acclaim all across. This proved to be one of the most memorable and iconic roles of Boman’s career.

6: Amitabh Bachchan in Black, Mohabatein and Aarakshan

Amitabh Bachchan has played the role of a teacher in movies like Black, Mohabatein and Aarakshan. A strict Narayan Shankar in Mohabbatein, an eccentric Debraj Sahai, who gives new life to a deaf, a blind and mute girl in Black and an honest Prabhakar Anand of Aarakshan, who fights to bring a change in the educational system without compromising on his morals and principles.

7: Shahid Kapoor in Paathshaala

Shahid played the role of music teacher Rahul Udyavar, who strikes an instant rapport with students and teachers alike and unifies teachers and students to stand up and fight against the atrocities of school management.

8: Dharmendra in Chupke Chupke

Chupke Chupke is a 1975 Indian Bollywood comedy film. It stars Dharmendra, Sharmila Tagore, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Om Prakash, Usha Kiran, David Abraham Cheulkar, Asrani and Keshto Mukherjee. Professor Parimal Tripathi (Dharmendra) is a botany professor who falls in love with Sulekha Chaturvedi (Sharmila Tagore) during a women's college botany excursion.
