Mike Hesson, head coach of Kings XI Punjab and former coach of New Zealand, has severed ties with the IPL team after one season.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Kings XI franchise and wish to thank them for the season I had in charge," Hesson tweeted on Thursday.

"Whilst disappointed not to be able to build on the work we did this year, I'm sure success isn't too far away for them. I wish them all the best for the future," he added.

There are reports that Hesson has been shortlisted as the top three candidates for India's coaching job, and is possibly in line to coach the Pakistan senior team after Mickey Arthur's contract was not renewed. It is reported that if he doesn't get the India job, he will look to get the top role with the arch-rivals.

The former Kiwi player took over from Brad Hodge last October as the coach of Kings XI Punjab, after the team failed to enter the top-four in 2018.

Hesson had signed a two-year contract with the team this year, but leaves midway. KXIP finished sixth this IPL.
