#WomensDay: Do not wish Women's day if you do not believe in these notions

International Women's Day is celebrated worldwide on March 8, every year

Women are an integral part of the society (however the ‘stronger and know-it-all’ men) would disagree. Many men would argue that if we want equal rights why do we have a separate day dedicated to celebrate the spirit and strength of being a woman? Well, firstly, we don't really need a day to realise the strength that we possess and secondly, women over the years have been tortured and treated as an “extra” and there is an existing section of the society which just refuses to treat women equally to men.

International Women's Day is celebrated worldwide on March 8, every year. The day was first observed on February 28th in 1909; however, the International Women’s Day conference in 1910 suggested that March 8 should be celebrated as International Women’s Day. It was only in 1975 that United Nations wholeheartedly adopted it (Just imagine, such a forward-thinking organization and it took them 65 years to simply adopt and acknowledge this day.)

Like we all know that Women’s day is celebrated today and that we’ll all be flooded with empowering messages, messages telling us how strong we are and we are equal in the society and so forth. However, DO NOT wish any woman a ‘Happy Women’s Day’ unless and until you genuinely believe in the following:

Genuinely respect women for who they are
Let us all accept the fact that each one of us somewhere down the road is hypocritical in nature. A humble society is not created with just a man respecting women but even for women respecting other women. Live in a nest that is built together because it is only when you respect the one another will there be room for discussion, opportunities and togetherness.

Treat women equal to men

One thing that the whole feminist wave has to offer is the real meaning of feminism which is equality and NOT male bashing. You don't want us to have specifically allocated seats? No problem, we don't either. Give us equal opportunities, equal exposure, equal pay at work. Don't comment “we know what she did to get that promotion” all because she is a woman and is working double the amount, putting in extra efforts than you.

The real strength is in the mind and not just your physicality

Many-a-times we see men showing off their strength and power in terms of their built. No, sir that is definitely what strength is. If you go back in history, it has always been the mind that has brought you success and has helped you conquered wars than the actual strength.

Stand up for a woman when you see someone doing wrong to her

And well this is the basic human courtesy. When your voice rages up seeing any wrongdoings towards the women in your family, your blood should equally boil when you see someone misbehave with any women outside. Recently, semen filled balloons were thrown at women in Delhi and it was an unfortunate sight that everyone was having a ball of a time together. It's plain sad, there is absolutely no explanation that can make this ugly and cheap act look like ‘fun’.

STOP OBJECTIFYING A WOMAN

Please, it is indeed high time that you stop objectifying a woman. The horrific act of rape not only takes place when a man forces himself on a girl but also when a man makes a woman feel dirty, cheap and easy just by staring and scanning her. We are NOT your property and we do NOT belong to anyone.

Planet Earth is not just revolving around its axis to prolong its existence, it is also moving towards a better tomorrow, a tomorrow that sees a woman and a man both EQUAL. Happy Women's Day!
