RIP Sridevi: Bathtub deaths are not uncommon: List of celebrities who died in a bathtub

The nation is currently under a major shock, as the first-ever female superstar of Bollywood, Sridevi, 54, passed away on Saturday night. The actress was hail, hearty and happy and was in Dubai for a family wedding.

The tests have been conducted and her body is handed over to her family and as per the forensic reports, she ‘accidentally drowned’ in her hotel room bathtub after losing her consciousness. While many of us would think that a bathtub death is a very uncommon way of dying, statistics, however, speak otherwise. As reported in the federal mortality data in 2006; in the US, at least one American dies in a hot tub, bathtub or spa as most of them are high on drugs or alcohol. In Japan, over 19,000 people die due to bath-related tragedies. Listed below are a few famous celebrities who met their untimely and unfortunate death in a bathtub.

Whitney Houston

American pop icon Whitney Houston was found dead at Beverly Hilton, in Beverly Hills, California in 2012. She was found facedown in a bathtub in the hotel suite. The official reports stated that she had accidentally drowned in the bathtub with heart disease and an overdose of cocaine use listed as contributing factors to her death.

Bobbi Kristina Brown

This one is surely cryptic. Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston’s 22-year-old daughter died almost in the same fashion as her late popstar mother Whitney Houston. She was found unconscious with her face down in a bathtub on January 31, 2015. Following nearly six months in coma, she was pronounced dead while in hospice care on July 26, 2015

Jim Morrison

The lead singer of The Doors was extremely famous amongst the youth for his seductive looks and onstage antics. He passed away pretty young, at just 27 years of age, due to drug and alcohol overdose. On July 3rd, 1971, Jim was found dead in his bathtub in Paris and reportedly had dried blood around his mouth, nose and chest. The official reports claimed that heart failure may be one of the many causes of his death.

Judy Garland

Actor and singer Judy Garland passed away when she was 47, as she was found dead in a bathtub in 1969. Judy has previously tried committing suicide many times. It was her fifth husband who found her dead. The cause of the death is said to be an overdose of barbiturates.

Claude Francois

Famous French pop-singer, Claude Francois’s obsession with cleanliness caused him his death. The singer was standing in a water-filled bathtub and was trying to fix a broken light bulb. It is then that he got electrocuted and passed away.
