The global ransomware attack has been a matter of concern to thousands of people around the world and attempts to trace the cyber criminals are still in full swing.

The attack has affected more than 150 countries and has instilled fear and anxiousness in the minds of many. The newest update is that an Indian-origin security researcher, involved with Google, has claimed that the hackers may have links to North Korea.

According to a popular news channel, Neel Mehta, the researcher, has published a code which a Russian security firm has termed as the "most significant clue to date." Reports stated that "Lazarus Group" that works on behalf of North Koreans might be the reason behind the attack, as in the past, it has used the same coding and tools as those used in "WannaCrypt" - the software used in the current hacking into the Microsoft operating software.

Though Mehta believes this to be true, according to the cyber security company, "It's important that other researchers around the world investigate these similarities and attempt to discover more facts about the origin of WannaCrypt."

Symantec and Kaspersky shared views on the same, stating that it was too early to tell whether North Korea was involved in the attacks, based on the evidence that was published on Twitter by Mehta. The attacks, which slowed on Monday, are among the fastest-spreading extortion campaigns that have ever been recorded.

With more than 200,000 machines infected, this cyber attack has been dubbed as the most disruptive ones, with the UK being the most hard hit.
