Ramadan 2020: The true meaning of the Holy month
Ramadan 2020: Ramadan is the Holy month for Muslims, that begins with a new moon sighting - marking the start of the ninth month in the Islamic calendar.
Ramadan is the Holy month for Muslims, that begins with a new moon sighting - marking the start of the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. Beginning today, Ramadan is observed all over the globe, and consists of fasting from dawn to sunset. During this period, Muslims are expected to abstain from food, drinks and worldly engagements and desires. However, it is to be noted, that that's not all there is to this Holy month.
Each year, the month of Ramadan brings with itself a chance to begin again. The spirit of Ramadan is all about forgiveness, taking care of one another and of course, remembering and giving praise to the Almighty, a little more than we usually do.
There is a logic and purpose behind abstaining from worldly desires and pleasures during this time. Muslims believe that this allows one to make a vice free, deeper connection with Allah. Since this was the period when the Holy Quran was sent down to the Prophet, it holds deep meaning for not only Muslims, but for God himself, who hides reward in the last ten nights of this month - the night of Qadr. This is the reason the month of Ramadan (the last ten nights, especially) is the ideal opportunity to reconnect with Allah with the hope that He will grant you peace and his blessings.
A spiritual experience, this time heightens awareness, thus, enabling one to feel the pain of those who live in despair, poverty and so on. It is a time when one focuses on the well being of others, rather than themselves. It’s a month of sharing and if you can help even a single person out, the purpose of Ramadan is considered fulfilled.
Though fasting is the primary emphasis, the spirit of Ramadan is much deeper than just the mechanical act of abstaining from food. It is an opportunity to bond with one's own inner soul, and reach out to God, asking him to forgive us for our sins and to restore our faith and beliefs.
