Nirbhaya - It's judgement day for the 4 who raped and killed her
"I'm alive only to see this day," says Nirbhaya's mother...
Undoubtedly one of the most brutal cases that our nation had witnessed, the Nirbhaya rape and murder case awaits with bated breath, the Supreme Court order today, at 2 pm. Today, the verdict will be out and it will be decided whether the killers will be hanged to death, spend their lifetime in prison or walk away free.

Nirbhaya was inhumanely assaulted and raped by six persons before being thrown out of a bus in South Delhi on December 16, 2012. She passed away at the hospital a few days later at Singapore. The Delhi police strongly argued for upholding the death penalty for the convicts and termed the incident as a "brutal crime".

A three-judge bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra concluded hearings on the appeals on March 27th and were heard for almost a year on a day-to-day basis. The Delhi police strongly argued for upholding the death penalty for the convicts and termed the incident as a 'brutal crime.'

According to a leading daily, Nirbhaya's mother said, "We have full faith in the judicial system and I am sure that the Supreme Court will announce death sentence in its verdict for the guilty. I am sure the Supreme Court will give justice to my daughter. This will set an example for the world." "They will be awarded death sentence. Leave Supreme Court, even God will not forgive such people," added the victim's father.

The accused - Akshay, Pawan, Vinay Sharma and Mukesh, challenged the Delhi High Court order which had sentenced them to the gallows. One of the convicts, Ram Singh hanged himself in prison, while another person, who was a juvenile at the time of the crime, was convicted in August last year and will serve the maximum sentence of three years in a reform home.
The brutal crime against Nirbhaya had created an outrage with the public and was a major wake-up call for our country to stand up against rape and sexual assault.
A hopeful mother and an entire nation await the verdict today.
