Labour Day - reasons to appreciate this day off
Here's why this holiday is so awesome...
Today is Labour Day, and the holiday is in honour of the contribution of working men and women. The history of this day goes back to May 1, 1886, when the idea of a Labour holiday caught on as more and more people sought a peaceful way to protest for better working conditions and for eight-hour workdays.
Besides being just another chance to relax at home instead of rushing to work on this day, there are several other reasons that make this holiday so amazing. But before we throw our feet back and take a chill pill, let's take a moment of silence to thank the hardworking men and women from the late 1800's for their efforts to create the much-improved working conditions we now enjoy. Once you're done with that, here are 5 reasons for you to appreciate this holiday even more...

1. Work-life balance is important
Work-life balance is the proper prioritisation between the work you do (the things you do to earn a living) and your lifestyle (the things you do to enjoy your life). It’s a simple concept to work hard but to take a break every once in a while. It's more necessary that we think!

2. It's 'SALE' day
Labour Day, just like other holidays, is a great excuse to go shopping. Besides, it’s true; there are endless shopping opportunities today, so if there’s something you need, or just really want, today might be the day to buy it.
3. Be a shameless couch potato
For all sports fans and lazy bums, today is an ideal opportunity to kick back and watch tv the whole day, guilt free! Non-sports fans or those just looking for some good entertainment, today is perfect for a Netflix marathon!

4. Your government wants you to take a day off
On this day, workers get an official day off to celebrate their tireless efforts of contributing toward the economy. It's a day for that your government insists you enjoy. Enough said.
So whether you are taking a quick vacation, taking the day off to shop, staying at home to relax, barbequing, or maybe all of the above, take the time to recognise why you have the liberty to do all of these things in the first place. Do whatever the hell you wanna do today, but don't forget to be thankful.
