Kulbushan Jadhav Case: India is satisfied as Pakistan cannot execute Jadhav till final order
India expresses fulfillment towards the judgement of ICJ in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case...
Finally, a big diplomatic win for India. The International Court of Justice at the Hague has declared its verdict - ruling in favour of India in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case. The UN court has told Pakistan to take all possible measures to ensure that Mr Jadhav is not executed and also, to give consular access to India.
According to reports, Jadhav cannot be executed until there's a final verdict on India's charge - of Pakistan violating its obligations under an international treaty, guaranteeing diplomatic help to foreigners accused of capital crimes.
The involved judges were in agreement with India, that there was urgency in the case and noted that Pakistan had given no assurance that Mr Jadhav would not be executed till its verdict. Hence, in a recent emergency hearing, New Delhi called on the UN court to order Islamabad to stop the execution of Jadhav.
According to a leading daily, Senior Supreme Court lawyer Siddharth Luthra had said, "India has achieved its victory and made its point the moment it internationalised the issue and took it to ICJ. So I believe we've already succeeded. The judgement is important, but I believe we've made our point."
After the decision, Home Minister Rajnath Singh took to twitter to express himself. He said - "The ICJ’s decision to stay the execution of Shri Kulbhushan Jadhav gives the people of India a deep sense of satisfaction and relief."
