The entire country is shook or let's be real and just put it down saying that a section of sensitive people are shook by the recent bestial incident that has come to light. Barbaric, infernal, callous, brutal, these terms probably do not even justify the horror that was bestowed upon an innocent eight year old. Her only crime you ask? Her religion. Today our heads should hang down in shame as we have failed together as a nation. Her soul questions each one of us. She questions us about what went wrong? She questions if this was really about being a Muslim? She questions us as to why the protests for Nirbhaya was valid and for her wrong. She questions us as to why we miserably failed to protect her? But do we have an answer to any of it? No. All that we really have is ‘temporary rage’ that lasts for a couple of days and is faded soon after.

Do we remember what we did as an eight-year-old? Asifa Bano, an EIGHT-year-old little girl was brutally gang-raped and murdered by a group of men for over three days. Now, adding the ‘important and relevant information’; well, she belonged to a Muslim nomadic tribe and the men were Hindus. In early January, the little girl was grazing her horses when a man called her out into the forest. As the police reports, the man drugged her with sleeping pills and dragged her to a temple where they locked her inside. The two men along with an "invited" guest from Meerut continuously raped her for over three days. In the end, they strangled her before one of the men insisted on raping her one last time. Her body was dumped in the forest and was found days later. The reason given by these inhuman beasts was to drive away the nomadic tribe from that area.

The case that took place earlier this year is gaining momentum now mainly because of the religion factor and everyone is making it a communal clash. But should rape be measured on the grounds of caste, religion, gender or colour? Can any reason, however solid, ever justify such a monstrous act? How can religion come above humanity? How can a nation fail over and over again in protecting the women of their country? How can the people in power sit on this sensitive subject and not do anything? How can a section of this country defend the accused? Have you stripped yourself off the basic humanity and is a division on the basis of religion the only claim to one’s identity? If the Government of today fails to take any credible action against the accused, it will without a doubt be an incident of national shame.

How much have we changed as a country post the ruthless Nirbhaya incident? Six years later and with a new Government in place has anything changed at all? Have the women found a safe ground? Even remotely? NO. Honestly speaking, when the Prime Minister of your country, whose biggest claim to fame is his speeches and promises, hides away from the public glare speaking absolutely nothing; it just shows the integrity of the people in this system. The outrage has reached another level where the people of this country are just fed up and have absolutely no expectations with the one in the system. Many influential celebrities, artists and the common men have all come out in support to bring justice for Asifa. Will this bring in a change? We hope so! Let no other daughter face the same unfortunate fate as Nirbhaya or Asifa or the innumerous amount of women who were brutally raped and murdered?

Can a gruesome act like rape be justified in the name of religion?
