Japan's Princess Mako to get engaged to her former classmate
Japan's Princess is about to live her ultimate romantic fairy tale...
The twenty-five-year-old daughter of Prince Akishino and his wife Kiko - Princess Mako, is all set to get engaged to Kei Komuro, a former classmate she met at the International Christian University in Tokyo.
Komuro, also twenty-five, currently lives in Yokohama and is studying business law at Hitotsubashi University’s graduate school, while also working at a law firm in Tokyo. According to sources, Prince Akishino and his wife have given their approval to the relationship, and the Emperor and Empress have been informed about it.
Preceding the announcement of the engagement, a traditional rite of betrohal called Nosai no Gi will take place, a ceremony that is traditionally held to exchange betrothal gifts amongst the public. This will be followed by other events that are to take place before the actual grand wedding ceremony. Out of which, two are events in which Princess Mako and Komuro’s marriage will be reported to the Imperial ancestors and Gods at three palaces within the Imperial Palace grounds, and the second being Choken no Gi, in which the Princess will bid farewell to the Emperor and Empress.
A Naishinno Princess is getting engaged after 12 years. It's also the very first time a female from the Imperial family has got engaged in three years, since the wedding of Noriko Senge, the second daughter of the late Prince Takamado.
According to the current Imperial Household Law, a princess who gets married must leave the Imperial family, which means Princess Mako would become a private citizen after her marriage with Komuro.
