The Time’s Up campaign is swinging in full power and the World is waking up and getting alarmed about the various unfair behaviour that takes place at workplaces and in various industries. Time’s Up, a high-powered initiative was introduced on January 1st, 2018 with the sole purpose of correcting the power imbalance and also to fight systemic sexual harassment in Hollywood and blue-collar workplaces all over the globe. Golden Globes was the first official event wherein celebrities donned all black and lended their support for the Time’s Up movement.

Following this, celebrities at the 60th annual Grammy Awards, turned up pinning or carrying white roses in order to give out their support and create an impact. Miley Cyrus, Zayn Malik, Nick Jonas, The Chainsmokers, Lady Gaga were a few celebrities amongst many who proudly flaunted the white rose. The recent most was the BAFTAs 2018 wherein everyone from Angelina Jolie,Jennifer Lawrence Margot Robbie, Salma Hayek, to name a few, graced the event wearing all black.

People all across the globe are highly influenced by the glamour industry and celebrities and every step that they take, leaves a heavy impact. With the most famous stars donning and following the colour code at various events, the Time’s Up campaign is no more just a fad and is being taken seriously Worldwide.

Giving people the courage to come out in the open and speak about the various issue.

Post the Harvey Weinstein episode, more and more victims are getting the courage to come out in the open and talk about their sexual harassment cases and the misbehaviour conducted with them. Model, actors, employees at blue collar places, everyone is speaking up and that is a huge impact that this movement had on the people.

The Industry is taking measures to fight the issue.

Yes, the industry has finally understood the intensity of this matter and are contributing in every possible way to make the workplace a safe place to work at. Recently, the Council of Fashion Designers of America in partnership with Model Alliance announced just two days ahead of the New York Fashion Week that models will have their own private area to change. This was a welcoming change and one that was needed for a pretty long time. Various magazines have also promised full protection of the models during shoots.

Big-wigs of the industry who used their power and misconducted are shown the door.

(Famous fashion photographer: Mario Testino)

Due to the impact of the campaign, models and victims are openly talking about the harassment that they had to face. Recently, Mario Testino, a favourite of the British Royal Family and Vogue has also come under rough waters as 13 male assistants and models told a leading newspaper that he sexually assaulted them by masturbating and groping. Testino is an icon in his own right who received an OBE in 2014, clicked a picture perfect portrait of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s engagement, shot supermodel Kendall Jenner for Vogue India’s anniversary edition and the recent February cover of US Vogue featuring Serena Williams and her three month old daughter. These serious allegations against the super famous photographer has put all of his achievement on the line. Vogue has barred Testino and will not be working with him for a while.

Building road for the future generations to come in.

The major reason why this campaign has been pushed and taken so seriously is to create a pathway and a safer workplace for the future generation. A World where the money that one gets is based on the work input and not the gender and a World where one can freely work without having to feel used and without being sexually, morally, mentally and physically abused.

With the widespread and the flight that this movement is taking, we hope that there is an impact in India too. Comment and let us know what you think.
