Following weeks of global outrage, United Airlines has reached a settlement with Dr. David Dao, the passenger who was violently dragged off of a flight last month.

As previously reported, Dao was seated on a flight scheduled to leave from Chicago to Louisville on the 9th of April, when airline personnel announced that they needed volunteer passengers to give up their seats so that commuting crew members could make their connecting flights. After no one offered to give up their seats, airline personnel chose four seats at random — one of which was Dao's. While the other three passengers willingly left the plane, Dao refused, stating that he was a doctor and had appointments with his patients to get to the next morning.

Police were then called to remove Dao from the plane, and when he still refused to leave, an officer violently dragged him out of his seat, causing him to bang his head into an armrest. He was then dragged down the plane's aisle, bleeding from the mouth. He was then rushed to a hospital where he was reportedly treated for a concussion, broken nose, and teeth that had been knocked out.
The resulting videos of the incident were quick to go viral online, with thousands expressing their outrage over how United handled the situation. In response, United has since released a new plan to better accommodate passengers and ensure a similar incident does not happen again; and the officer who pulled Dao off the plane has been suspended.

According to a popular news channel, lawyers for Dao announced the settlement  yesterday; and though they did not disclose the exact amount, Dao's lawyers were quick to praise both United and the company's CEO Oscar Munoz for how they handled the situation. "Mr. Munoz said he was going to do the right thing, and he has," Dao's lawyer Thomas Demetrio said in a statement. "In addition, United has taken full responsibility for what happened...without attempting to blame others."
