The star of 'Little Miss Sunshine' and the remake of the hit flick 'Dirty Dancing', Abigail Breslin, recently took to her Instagram to speak up for the second time about being raped and explained why she didn’t report the assault.
The 21 year old actress, shoc
She wrote, “First off, I was in complete shock and total denial. I didn’t want to view myself as a “victim” so I suppressed it and pretended it never happened. Second, of all, I was in a relationship with my rapist and I feared not being believed. I also feared that if my case didn’t lead anywhere, he would still find out and hurt me even more." The actress also added that she was afraid about how hurt her loved ones would be when they found out about the assault and so decided to keep quiet.
Abigail, just like most other victims of assault, also opened up about how she was soon diagnosed with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) after the incident, and how she is still battling it.

In an Instagram post, she posted a picture that read: "You are not obligated to have sex with someone that you’re in a relationship with. Dating is not consent. Marriage is not consent." She captioned it - "I knew my assailant. #SexualAsaultAwarenessMonth #breakthesilence
Just like Abigail, thousands of victims decide to hide what hurts them, in fear of being judged, misunderstood, shamed or being called a liar. By not calling out the person who has harmed you, you must know that you are empowering them, leading them to believe that they might get away with it again. You must realise that it's not your shame and you shouldn't be afraid to come out with it. By not talking about what is killing you inside, you are only harming yourself and letting the other person go scot free. So don't think twice and break the silence. Do it for you.
