For the unversed, a diet which lacks in nutrients can lead to a lot of unpleasant issues in the body. And, our body communicates with those symptoms so that we can recognize them and adjust our diet accordingly.

1. Brittle hair and nails
Are you experiencing brittle hair and nails? Then you may be suffering from biotin aka Vitamin B7 deficiency. Apart from the same, there are other symptoms of biotin deficiency and it includes fatigue, cramps and tingling sensation in hands and feet. One can cure it by having foods rich in biotin- egg yolks, fish, meat, dairy, nuts, seeds, broccoli, sweet potatoes, whole grains and bananas among others.

2. Bleeding gums
Rough brushing could be the common cause of bleeding gums but another cause is Vitamin C deficiency. For the uninitiated, this particular vitamin is important when it comes to wound healing and to support the immunity system. Some of the foods which are good sources of Vitamin C are broccoli, brussels sprouts and cauliflower, green veggies, white potatoes, tomatoes and lemon among others.

3. Mouth ulcers
As per studies, people who have mouth ulcers mostly have deficiencies in thiamin (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2) and pyridoxine (vitamin B6). The same symptom is for iron deficiency as well. If you have insufficient Vitamin Bs then go for food items such as whole grains, meat, fish, eggs, dairy, legumes, greens and nuts. 

4. Dandruff
If you are suffering from dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis then one of the reasons could niacin (vitamin B3), riboflavin (vitamin B2) and pyridoxine (vitamin B6) deficiencies. Foods which are rich in the same are meat, eggs, fish, dairy, nuts, greens, starchy veggies among others. You may also be zinc deficient and foods packed with zince are meat, legumes, dairy and nuts among others.

5. Hair loss
Hair loss is one of the common symptoms of iron, zinc and Biotin (vitamin B7) deficiency. If you are losing a lot of hair then make sure to have a diet which is rich in the these nutrients.

6. Bumps on the back of the arm
Bumps on the arms could be a sign that you are lacking vitamin A and zinc. Staci Small, RD, of The Wellness Philosophy in Greenwood, Indiana told RD.com, “Many patients have these little red bumps that don’t itch. I always look at their zinc and vitamin A levels. That’s because both nutrients are vital for maintaining skin health, and play key roles in wound repair."

7. Fatigue
The feeling of tiredness every time is a red flag about Vitamin D deficiency. To prevent the same, one should increase the intake of Vitamin D rich foods such a yogurt, milk, mushrooms grown under UV light among others.
