Do you prefer to spend time alone and do your own thing rather than hang out with a bunch of people? And when you do hang out with people, do you need some "me time" to rejuvenate and replenish your battery? Have you always felt different in a crowd?

Then don't worry! As opposed to what we are taught by our peers, teachers and parents, this behaviour is completely normal. It just means you are in introvert! There are numerous misconceptions about introverts and how they are antisocial, shy or unfriendly. Most people consider these qualities as a disadvantage. But those who are not introverts overlook the fact that possessing these qualities can be quite beneficial!

Here are some surprising benefits of being an introvert that nobody told you about:

Introverts are good listeners

Since you are not much of a speaker, you make for a good listener. You are the one your friends tell their sob stories and relationship problems to, and that's because they know you pay attention and listen when others don't.

Introverts' words carry weight

You are known to be the quiet one, which is why when you talk, you often leave people stumped! When you speak, your words carry more value because that means you have evaluated and thought carefully about what you have to say before making a point.

Introverts make excellent friends

Because you are all ears to your friends and are there for them anytime they need you, people think of you as trustworthy. This is an excellent quality of friendship, which is why your friends' circle might be limited, but your friendship is so much more meaningful than those extroverts who have 100 friends they cannot depend on.

Introverts are observant

It is very likely that in any situation, you might have caught some important information that nobody else did because they do not pay attention! This comes in handy especially at work, where people might think you are not interested, but you would have caught more important points in the meeting than anybody else! You also usually judge the nature of the room by observing people's expressions, body language, etc. that ultimately makes it easier for you to communicate with them.

Introverts make excellent spouses

Because introverts have good observational skills, they can usually tell what their partner wants. Whether it is space, privacy or more love and attention, introverts know when to give it and how! And since you are a good listener, when your partner comes back frustrated from work, you are there to calmly listen to them without waiting for your turn to talk, which is how most relationships function.

Introverts make good leaders

Unlike the bossy leaders who don't work themselves, introverts use all of their above skills to evaluate each person, observe their strong and weak points and then assign work or deal with them tactfully. They are not focused on taking credit for the group's success but instead give credit where it is deserved, making them likeable and in turn strengthening the team.

Introverts are more independent

An introvert prefers to do things on their own. You do not need or want help from people and thrive on working independently. Team projects are usually tiresome for you since most other people seem inefficient, which is why you'd rather work on your terms and get things done your way rather than depending on anybody else.
